Who is on the Web?

In the fourth quarter of 2004, 52 per cent of households in the UK (12.6 million) could access the Internet from home, compared with just 9 per cent (2.2 million) in the same quarter of 1998.

In February 2005, 59 per cent of adults in Great Britain had used the Internet in the three months prior to interview. 56 per cent of these adults had bought or ordered goods, tickets or services. A higher proportion of men (60 per cent) than women (52 per cent) had used it for purchases.

In the summer of 2003, there were 580 million internet users worldwide.
